Atmospheric Rock
Guitar-based music that lets space, repetition and the decay of a note become part of the composition.
Atmospheric Rock is not a well-defined historical movement. It is a description applied to records where layered guitars, patient rhythms or carefully treated sound establish an unusually strong sense of space. The technique appears in Post-Rock, Shoegaze, dream pop and slower Alternative Rock, each with a distinct history. A long guitar effect or an echoing vocal is not enough to identify a new subgenre.
