Bedroom Pop
Bedroom Pop became increasingly visible in the 2010s as musicians used inexpensive recording software, social platforms and personal rooms to create and release songs without conventional studio arrangements. Clairo was one particularly visible example, though the practice of home recording existed long before that generation. The modern label also describes a recognizable intimate Pop aesthetic, but the two meanings should remain distinct.
Small keyboard patterns, simple guitar accompaniment and quietly delivered vocals can create a sense of closeness. Yet not every bedroom recording sounds alike: production may become elaborate, electronic or highly rhythmic. The location of a recording does not automatically establish its musical genre.
