Crust Metal
Crust punk's abrasive urgency and anti-authoritarian culture given a more metallic guitar attack.
Crust metal describes an intersection that emerged in the British punk and Metal undergrounds of the 1980s. Amebix and Sacrilege were important early reference points, mixing hardcore's confrontational spirit and underground networks with heavier metal riffs. Later bands combined crust with thrash, death metal and sludge in varying proportions. Because these scenes overlapped strongly, records can be called crust punk by one writer and crust metal by another without either classification being entirely unreasonable.
Harder edges
Harsh vocals, densely distorted guitars and D-beat-derived drumming may be accompanied by slower metallic passages and more elaborate riffs. The songs can move quickly or dwell on sustained weight. The musical evidence is the combination of punk rhythm and metal technique, rather than the political commitment of the band alone.
A historical border
Crust Metal has close ties to Crust, D-Beat and metal.
