Easycore

Pop-punk choruses running straight into heavy breakdowns and a much sharper rhythmic attack.

Easycore became a recognizable term around the 2000s for bands mixing melodic Pop Punk with hardcore and sometimes Metalcore weight. New Found Glory supplied an important earlier melodic-punk vocabulary, while Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals and A Day to Remember pushed the contrast further. A song may have bright vocal hooks and fast guitar parts, then slow abruptly into a breakdown meant for a crowded venue. The term has often been used playfully and its borders with melodic hardcore and pop punk are loose. What matters is the audible collision between the two approaches, not simply whether a singer shouts during a chorus.
