Egg Punk
Nervy, cheap-sounding punk with bright synths, clipped guitar and a taste for absurdity.
Egg Punk became a common online nickname during the 2010s for a particularly wiry strand of independent punk. The term overlaps with Devo-core, synth punk and lo-fi Garage Punk, and the name spread through memes as much as record-label descriptions. Bands such as Uranium Club, CCTV and the Coneheads developed angular rhythms, unstable vocal delivery and compact songs with electronic or new-wave touches. There is no reason to force every artist into one geographic scene, though Midwestern US networks were important to the early discussion. The joke in the name is part of its history, but the music deserves an explanation beyond the joke.
