Experimental Punk

Punk musicians taking its permission to experiment into music that refuses a single fixed form.

Experimental Punk covers several practices that emerged after punk's late-1970s breakthrough. Wire reduced and rebuilt song structures, the Minutemen used funk and unusual arrangements inside short, urgent songs, and the Ex brought improvisation and political performance into different settings. None of these bands founded one universally named subgenre. The punk connection lies partly in an approach to independence and creative risk, while the music can be rhythmic, fragmented, abrasive or surprisingly tuneful. Not every experimental punk group shares one sound.
