Glam Punk
Punk's rough attack borrowing glam rock's theatrical hooks, swagger and stage presence.
Glam Punk links music that drew from the New York Dolls and other early-1970s glam performers before and after punk took shape. The New York Dolls were an important precursor, combining tough guitar rock and exaggerated presentation that later punk bands could recognize as an alternative to polished stadium rock. Hanoi Rocks and later groups developed the meeting point in different ways. Some records lean toward catchy hard rock; others keep punk's shorter and more abrasive arrangements. The image is visible, but music matters: a band wearing theatrical clothes without borrowing the sound is not necessarily glam punk.
