Gothic Punk

Punk's guitar attack taking on darker melodies and the visual language of gothic subcultures.

Gothic Punk is used unevenly for music near Deathrock, early Gothic Rock and later bands carrying both punk and darkwave influences. Christian Death and 45 Grave were important to the early Los Angeles deathrock scene, while the British gothic tradition followed another route from post-punk. The shared features may include pointed bass lines, rougher voices and theatrical lyrics, but the original scenes should not be collapsed into one genre. If a band actually belongs to Deathrock or Goth Rock, that more specific tag should remain visible. Gothic Punk can describe a musical crossover when its meaning is clear in the article.
