Industrial Death Metal
Death metal's riffing and harsh voices pressed against drum machines, samples and industrial repetition.
Industrial Death Metal describes several 1990s intersections rather than one band or city. Meathook Seed brought musicians connected with Napalm Death and Obituary into a heavily programmed, industrial-influenced death-metal setting. Fear Factory's early records also incorporated mechanical precision and extreme-metal techniques, although the band's later albums moved through broader Industrial and groove-metal sounds. The guitar may be tightly palm-muted against repetitive drums, or a sample can become a central rhythmic device. The genre remains rooted in Death Metal when the extreme-metal guitar and vocal language is essential, rather than simply adding distorted electronics to any heavy record.
