Psychedelic Metal
Heavy guitar music bending its riffs through repetition, effects and the longer forms of psychedelic rock.
Psychedelic metal names a broad meeting point rather than a single self-contained scene. The heavy guitar approaches of Black Sabbath and the later stoner and doom underground often borrowed from 1960s Psychedelic Rock. Bands such as Elder developed expansive riff-based writing, while other musicians used fuzz, unusual effects and free-flowing arrangements to place heaviness inside a more exploratory structure. The style cannot be dated to one year when guitar distortion and psychedelic methods first appeared together.
The riff can keep changing
A repeated chord may hold for minutes while leads and drums gradually change their relationship. Some songs move from hard-rock grooves into extended instrumental sections or quieter effects passages. Psychedelic Metal does not require every recording to sound like Stoner Metal, and an album cover using psychedelic imagery is not proof of the sound.
Across several branches
The description overlaps with Stoner Metal, Psychedelic Rock, Doom Metal and Progressive Metal. Those intersections are musically plausible but do not establish one strict descent.
