Technical Metal

Technical Metal is an umbrella-like description for heavy music whose instrumental complexity becomes part of the writing. Atheist and Cynic pursued rhythmically unusual death-metal approaches around the early 1990s; Meshuggah developed a different language of repeated, displaced accents. These musicians were not part of one founding scene with a single manifesto. The term explains a characteristic rather than an independently established origin.

Rapid, precisely coordinated patterns, changes in meter and demanding guitar parts can all contribute. Yet Technical Death Metal names a more specific lineage, while Djent and Mathcore come from other intersections. Classifying every technically proficient band under one strict musical ancestor would make the archive less useful.
