Thrash

Thrash is a word shared by fast metal, fast hardcore punk and the music made where those scenes crossed paths. Thrash Metal developed from heavy metal in the early 1980s, increasingly borrowing speed and aggression from punk. Thrashcore usually points toward much shorter, faster hardcore songs; Crossover Thrash draws from both traditions. Treating these as one uninterrupted family tree would reverse or erase parts of their history.

The sound tells the difference. The articulated, palm-muted guitar riff of thrash metal is not the same as thrashcore's compressed punk attack. Crossover can retain the punk urgency while using metal's heavier technique. Explore's Thrash umbrella brings these strands together for navigation while crediting each article to its actual genre.
