Future Wave

A forward-looking electronic or post-punk label whose meaning depends on the artist who uses it.

Future Wave has no widely accepted, continuous genre history in the way that New Wave, Synth-Pop or Cold Wave do. It has appeared as a promotional or editorial description for music borrowing synthesizer rhythms, post-punk guitar ideas and contemporary Electronic production. A particular band may use it to signal an imagined future of new wave, but that intention is not a shared musical genealogy.
